Keisha’s Blessing
Keisha’s Blessing offers a free stay for bereaved parents and close family staying at Ker Keisha on the peaceful Isle of Wight.
Our Beginnings
No parent should have to experience losing their child, and when you do it feels like you are losing control of your life. Sadly, our daughter Keisha lost her battle with cancer at the age of only 17. It may have taken her life but it never took her spirit.
Inspired by her courage, positivity and hope we want to be there to offer bereaved families a supporting hand to lead them through the tunnel of sadness.
About Keisha
Keisha means fortunate. We were very fortunate to have her as our daughter for 17 wonderful years and those memories can never be replaced. In time – we will have new memories that we will share with her as she will always be in our thoughts.
From the moment that Keisha became ill, in a way she became stronger. She never let her fight with cancer define her, nothing stopped her from having fun and living life to the full.
Keisha had a great sense of humour so there was a lot of laughter amongst the pain. Her shopping stamina was unmatched. You always had to look good. Whenever she was knocked down, she would just set herself new challenges, and new goals, always keeping her mind busy. You knew where you were with Keisha, she was always honest but never negative. Keisha encouraged you to embrace what you had and not to worry about the small things because life was too short.
Keisha’s Blessing
After becoming bereaved parents, you suddenly find that it is almost a ‘taboo subject’ and support is spread very thin. You are left very much to find your own way. Grief is personal but support can be shared so Keisha’s Blessing was set up in November 2016 to be there to offer free breaks to bereaved parents and close family members. Ker Keisha (Ker meaning house/place in Breton and it’s also Keisha’s initials) was originally set in a peaceful retreat in the quiet Brittany countryside. However, we have now relocated to a seaside setting on the Isle of Wight. Our aim remains the same, during their visit, families will have the space and time for reflection, enabling them to gather the strength to carry on and move forward. As a small charity, we can ensure that donations received will go directly towards supporting the visiting families.
